Carly Simon did it better

February 23, 2017 by Southpaw 27 Comments

Saying that something is “The Best” is usually a subjective opinion.

After Tom Brady won his 5th Super Bowl ring, analysts squabbled over whether or not he was the greatest quarterback of all time. Despite the fact that the subject isn’t statistically debatable, many couldn’t accept that TB12 is the NFL’s “Great One”. It’s interesting that analysts couldn’t see eye to eye, but even more interesting that they used excessively subjective viewpoints to argue their cases. To me, statistics and awards serve a very specific purpose. They’re something tangible that we can either see or feel. They solidify when a given accomplishment has been met, thus straying away from opinion and further into fact. Ultimately, accomplishments can be used as evidence against someone else’s viewpoint, but it’s still difficult to say that something is objectively “The Best” or even better than something else… Unless you’re Donald Trump.

The Donald doesn’t need trophies, factual evidence, or accomplishments within any field to say that he’s “The Best.” Just in case you’re wondering what he’s so much better at, here’s a short clip to let you know. Spoiler Alert: Some of these are YUGE!

Misinformed Milo

February 20, 2017 by Southpaw 28 Comments

The In-Your-Face Gay Alt-Right Conservative

Milo Yiannopoulos is a walking stream of contradictions and possibly one of the most interesting people on the internet today. The Senior Editor for Breitbart News stands at the forefront of the Alt-Right movement, whose supporters share his ultra-conservative stance, but disparage his lifestyle as a homosexual. Makes sense, right? You’d think it’d be difficult to figure out how an outwardly gay British man became one of the most well-known personalities in Conservative American media, but it’s actually not that hard. Milo is a boastful provocateur, who consistently pushes out heavily controversial opinions, rattling Liberals to the core. He’s brilliant in the sense that he has members of the Left literally eating out of his hand. Everything he says gains immediate traction, pushing liberals into yet another media frenzy, further contributing to his fame.

Who’s hiding behind that Bush?

February 17, 2017 by Southpaw 28 Comments

First off, I cannot express how happy I am that we’ve come to this point in American politics. Not only can the President address us online daily, but government officials can now have public sparring matches with one another in 140 characters or less. Reading a little back and forward is always exciting, but I love Jeb throwing shade with only 3 words. Interestingly enough, those words and the supporting article, shed some serious light on the situation. According to The Hill, Trump will have to seize private land along the U.S./Mexican Border to build his wall. So, let me get this straight. Trump threw out numbers ranging from $4 Billion (“If you know what you’re doing”) to $12 Billion over the course of his campaign, and that didn’t even include the purchasing of private land. This isn’t some 20-acre plot along the Southern Border. These privately-owned properties span over a distance of nearly 2000 miles. This doesn’t only show that Trump’s multiple estimates came out of thin air, but it shows that he completely ignored a major factor in the construction project. One you’d assume a Real Estate developer would think about. More interesting than his grievously wrong cost estimate, is the subject of Eminent Domain. Despite backing Trump’s Wall, Republicans are known to frequently oppose government seizure of private property. So, Trump has lied to his Republican supporters about the cost and must betray a heavily enforced Republican stance to build the wall. Top it all off with Republican officials throwing shade at him on Twitter, it doesn’t seem like “The Donald” can’t buy a win. Weren’t we supposed to be winning so much that we were going to get tired of winning? That didn’t last long.
